Stephenson succeeds Mike Arias as coach after a playing career and two years as a graduate assistant at Occidental College. She inherits only one returning starter, Kubota, whose three-point shooting won her all-league honors last season. Sauitufuga, Shulte and Snavely, who has recovered from a knee injury, are the only other players with varsity experience. Stephenson has some talented newcomers to sort through, however, led by Alexander, the younger sister of Korey and Kevin, the twins who starred on the Tiger football and track and field teams before graduating last spring. Not surprisingly, the 6-1 Alexander is the fastest player on the team. Stephenson also looks for Ritchey, the MVP of the junior varsity last season, to contribute. Stephenson figures the going will be rough early as she introduces her system and blends in the younger players. But with a good mix of size and speed, Stephenson says the Tigers will be competitive when league play arrives.
