Dennis Byrd, the paralyzed New York Jet defensive lineman, continues to make progress in his rehabilitation at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, according to his doctors.

“Dennis has remained healthy and free of the complications that are often associated with spinal cord injuries,” said Kristjan Ragnarsson, chairman of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the hospital. “His rehab program has become more intensive as he has gained stamina.”

Byrd issued a written note of thanks for the support he has received since being hurt Nov. 29 when he collided with a teammate while attempting a tackle.

“Angela, Ashtin and I and our families have simply been overwhelmed by the outpouring of good wishes and prayers we have received from the people of New York and throughout the country,” the note said. “We can not personally thank each and everyone, but we want you to know how much your support has meant to us. We want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy holiday.”
