You have a professional responsibility to accurately report what we as candidates say and do.
Your characterization of my reference to being Jewish--which is something I am very proud of--totally misrepresented what I actually said at the recent Anti-Defamation League forum (Dec. 18).
My real response to the moderator’s question about improving Jewish-African American relations was:
“I think that we as Jews have a unique opportunity to improve relations in this city, not only among African-Americans and Jews, but among all the diverse groups in our city. The positive relationship we had in the past was based on two principles. First, that discrimination against one is discrimination against all. And second, that economic opportunity for one is opportunity for all. These principles are as valid today as they were in the past. So we can rekindle the coalition, based upon a commonality of purpose, and begin real hope for the future.”
