One man was killed and two others were injured Sunday when a car sped out of control and drove off the Antelope Valley Freeway in Acton, California Highway Patrol officers said.

According to witnesses, a southbound Honda Accord carrying three men was traveling along the shoulder of the freeway just north of Crown Valley Road at about 4:30 p.m., Sgt. Louie Pravettone said. The car went over a center divider and dropped about 30 feet down an embankment between the freeway’s northbound and southbound lanes, he said.

The men’s names were not released, Pravettone said. Two passengers were ejected from the car. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where he was reported in serious condition.
