Montana’s Second-Half Surge Catches CS Northridge, 63-55
Turnovers, a cold-shooting spell and foul trouble cost Cal State Northridge an eight-point lead en route to a 63-55 loss to Montana before 5,834 at Dahlberg Arena on Monday night.
After taking a 36-28 lead on Andre Chevalier’s three-point shot, the Matadors committed four turnovers and missed six of their next seven shots while the Grizzlies outscored them, 11-3, to make the score 39-39 with 13:22 to play.
A three-pointer by Brooklyn McLinn drew the Matadors within 45-44 with 7:56 remaining, but Montana’s Don Hedge scored six points during a 13-5 surge that put away the Matadors (2-7).
Hedge scored 13 of his 15 points and grabbed 11 of his 15 rebounds during the second half.
Twelve of the 13 fouls called in the last 16 minutes of the game were on Northridge players. Montana (7-3) shot 23 free throws to Northridge’s five.
“It wasn’t fair at all,” Northridge Coach Pete Cassidy said.
James Morris led Northridge with 16 points.
