School Project Bids Expected in January
The Oxnard Union High School District is expected next month to begin accepting bids on the groundwork for the new Oxnard High School, officials said.
The school board is scheduled to vote at its Jan. 13 meeting on bids for the work, which would include removing lemon trees from the site and other preparations for construction. If all goes well, the five-member panel will award a contract by Jan. 27, with groundbreaking to follow in early February, said Robert Brown, the district’s business manager.
The district had originally planned to break ground this month, but had to push back its plans because qualifying the bidders for the work has taken longer than expected, officials said.
The school board has approved qualifications of several construction firms throughout the state that have applied to work on the $33-million project. C. A. Rasmussen Inc. of Simi Valley and W. M. Lyles Co. of Camarillo are the only two Ventura County companies to be approved for bidding.
The new school is expected to open in September, 1994, officials said.
