SANTA ANITA : Set Them Free Scores Easy Victory in Mud

Share

Set Them Free, who beat only one horse in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Stakes at Gulfstream Park two months ago, splashed home a winner Tuesday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye, Set Them Free beat Southern Switch by 2 1/4 lengths. And 1 1/4 lengths farther back in the $82,100 Pasadena Stakes were Enchanted Spot and Miss Timebank in a dead heat for third.

Owned by Jerry and Ann Moss and trained by Brian Mayberry, favored Set Them Free paid $5, running six furlongs on a muddy track in 1:09.

Set Them Free had a second-place finish and two victories in her three races before the 11th-place finish at Gulfstream.

“I knew she wasn’t as bad as she ran in Florida,” Mayberry said. “I threw that race out. She was training very well for this race and obviously is very effective sprinting.”

At 1 1/16 miles, the Breeders’ Cup race was the first time around two turns for the daughter of Stop The Music.
