OXNARD : Recyclables Worth Money at Landfill

Share

Ventura County residents can earn money while cleaning out the old to make room for the new in 1993 by hauling recyclable household materials to the Buy-Back Center at Oxnard’s Bailard Landfill.

The center pays the following rates for California redemption materials: aluminum, 80 cents per pound; glass, 5 cents per pound; plastic, 38 cents per pound or 5 cents per container; mix of California redemption and other aluminum containers, 64.5 cents per pound; white bond paper, half a cent per pound, and computer paper, 1.5 cents per pound.

Prices are subject to change.

Beginning this week, the center will pay cash for loads worth less than $10, a spokesman said.

The center will continue to issue checks for loads worth $10 or more.

The center also accepts, but does not pay for, plastic bags, Styrofoam, non-California redemption glass and plastics, corrugated cardboard, newsprint and tin cans.

Also at the landfill, the Recyclable Household Wastes Center accepts the following materials for either regular or reduced dumping fees: appliances, brush, trees and lumber, mattresses, scrap metal, tires ($1 each) and wood pallets.

To take advantage of reduced dumping fees for some recyclable items, the items must be separated from other trash.

The minimum dumping fee for mixed trash is $20.

Bailard is operated by the Ventura County Regional Sanitation District and serves five cities in western Ventura County.

The landfill, at 4105 W. Gonzales Road, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
