Three veteran Ventura County supervisors who won bids for reelection last spring by large margins were sworn into office Tuesday.

In a brief morning ceremony at the county Government Center, Supervisors John K. Flynn, Susan K. Lacey and Maggie Kildee began their fourth consecutive terms in office.

Longtime county Assistant Auditor Thomas Mahon was also sworn in to succeed Norman R. Hawkes as auditor-controller. Hawkes, who retired on Dec. 31, had two years left in his term.

All three supervisors said they were pleased to serve another four years, but they expressed apprehension about the upcoming year, which is expected to be riddled with financial problems.

Last year was a very difficult year in Ventura County and nationwide, Kildee said. “I don’t believe (1993) is going to be an easy year for any of us.”

Lacey added: “We are not going to get through this if we don’t do it together.”
