Beverly Hills : Low-Cost Transit Program

The city has earmarked $150,000 for its low-cost transportation program for senior citizens, handicapped and critically ill residents through June 30.

The program provides discounted taxi coupons and lift-van vouchers to Beverly Hills residents through the St. Barnabas Senior Center of Los Angeles. All residents 65 or older are eligible, as are residents of any age who are blind or require wheelchairs for mobility. Residents who are undergoing dialysis, chemotherapy or radiation treatment, or those with AIDS or Alzheimer’s disease, are also eligible.

he charge for a taxi coupon book is $4, which provides $24 in taxi fares. Lift-van voucher books cost $5 and may be used for 10 rides of up to five miles each.

More than 2,000 residents participated in the 5-year-old program during the 1991-92 fiscal year, according to the city. West Hollywood and Los Angeles also participate in the federally funded program. For information, call (213) 388-4444.
