NORTHRIDGE : CSUN Panel Advises Hiring Ombudsman

Share

A campus advisory board has recommended that Cal State Northridge President Blenda J. Wilson appoint one or more ombudsmen to intervene in racial and other conflicts at the school.

The Presidential Advisory Board on Campus Diversity and Multiculturalism said such a position was needed to help resolve conflicts informally on the campus.

Wilson said through a spokeswoman that she was interested in the idea and has asked for a formal proposal on the scope of the job from the school’s Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Advisory Board.

Racial tensions and protests were sparked at CSUN last fall by a fraternity party flyer that many women and Latino students said was offensive. The fraternity, Zeta Beta Tau, was later suspended from campus activities for 14 months.
