Nightclub Disc Jockey Shot to Death

A disc jockey for a Panorama City nightclub was shot and killed after a struggle with a lone gunman outside the club Sunday morning, police said.
Carlos M. Valencia, 25, was shot once in the head and died at the scene of the shooting at 14530 Lanark St., Los Angeles Police Sgt. David Twitchell said.
Valencia played records at Club Selection’s, a bar catering to a primarily Latino clientele, police said. Valencia was walking to his car in the parking lot at 4:30 a.m. when a man with a gun confronted him, Detective John Edwards said. The two men struggled over the gun before the victim was shot, Edwards said.
Edwards said he does not think that robbery was a motive because nothing was taken from the victim’s wallet.
“Probably something happened in the bar earlier” that caused the gunman to wait for Valencia, Edwards said.
