COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : No. 4 Kansas Runs Over No. 10 Oklahoma, 96-85

Kansas guard Adonis Jordan, held scoreless during the first half, scored 17 points during the second half of Monday night’s Big Eight Conference game against No. 10 Oklahoma.

Jordan helped lead a 26-7 run during the opening minutes of the second half that carried No. 4 Kansas to a 96-85 victory at Norman, Okla.

“In the first half, I had the attitude that I would take what the defense gave me,” Jordan said. “In the second half, I took what I wanted.”

Jordan and Richard Scott each scored eight points during the run, which saw the Jayhawks (12-1, 2-0 in the Big Eight) turn a nine-point halftime deficit into a 65-55 lead. Kansas led by as many as 13 points in beating Oklahoma (11-3, 0-1) for the fifth consecutive time.

Rex Walters scored 23 points for Kansas, and Scott had 19 points and 10 rebounds.

No. 7 Seton Hall 80, No. 24 Syracuse 73--During a Big East Conference game at East Rutherford, N.J., Terry Dehere scored 24 points and became the second-leading scorer in Seton Hall history.

Dehere now has 2,069 points. Nick Werkman is Seton Hall’s all-time leader with 2,273.

Seton Hall (14-1, 4-0) has won 11 consecutive games and is off to its best Big East start since the conference was formed in 1979. Syracuse (9-4, 1-4) has its worst record in the conference since the 1980-81 season.

No. 18 Nevada Las Vegas 101, Missouri 84--The Rebels broke open a close game with a 17-4 run at the start of the second half at Las Vegas. J.R. Rider led UNLV (7-1) with 32 points. Mark Atkins of Missouri (9-3) led all scorers with 34 points.

OTHER GAMES

Steve Gentry of Xavier of Ohio (8-2) missed a three-point attempt before the buzzer, allowing Louisville (6-4) to escape with a 76-73 nonconference victory at Louisville, Ky. . . . Reserve forward Jerrell Horne scored 24 points and Anfernee Hardaway added 23 as Memphis State (9-5) defeated Southeastern Louisiana (6-5), 109-58, in a nonconference game at Memphis, Tenn.
