LOS ANGELES : Fees for Traffic Control at Private Events Restored

Share

The Los Angeles Raiders, Dodgers and the organizers of the Hollywood Christmas Parade and Academy Awards will have to pay for officers to direct traffic at their events under a City Council action taken Wednesday.

The council, by a 10-5 vote, overrode a veto by Mayor Tom Bradley and reinstated charges for traffic regulation that are expected to raise about $1.5 million a year.

Representatives of the Dodgers and the Hollywood parade have led opposition to the fees, saying they will place an unnecessary burden on operations that already pay heavy taxes.

The majority of the council argued that the money was needed to balance the city’s budget and that private entertainment events should not be subsidized by the city treasury.
