From Associated Press

A No. 1 ranking and a trip to Vanderbilt’s Memorial Gym don’t mix.

Kentucky found that out Wednesday night, losing to the unranked Commodores in a Southeastern Conference game, 101-86.

Billy McCaffrey scored 22 points and had a school-record 14 assists to lead the Commodores.

Vanderbilt defeated the last No. 1 team to visit, North Carolina in 1987-88.

The Commodores (12-3, 2-1 in the SEC) made 36 of 43 free throws.

Kentucky (11-1, 2-1) tried to pressure Vanderbilt but found itself in foul trouble with Jamal Mashburn and Rodney Dent picking up four apiece late in the game, after Travis Ford and Rodrick Rhodes had fouled out.
