Hollywood : Cited Adult Shop Moves

Complaints from residents and Los Angeles city officials about two adult entertainment shops on Melrose Avenue have prompted one of the shops to seek new quarters in the San Fernando Valley and the other to remove adult-related merchandise from the store.

Taboo and Sensations, adult entertainment stores within two blocks of each other, were cited in October by the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety for violating a municipal code that prohibits the sale of adult entertainment items within 500 feet of a residential zone, school or place of worship.

Sensations, a store that carried a variety of adult entertainment items, is in the process of moving adult-related items out of the store, said Dan Snyder, senior inspector with the Department of Building and Safety. Although both stores were given 30 days to comply with the order, Sensations was granted an extension, Snyder said.

Taboo, a store that specialized in adult videos, recently moved to Ventura Boulevard in Tarzana, Snyder said. The new location, however, is within 100 feet of a residential zone, Snyder said, and if complaints are made against Taboo there, he said the store’s owners will again be cited.
