Rosemead : City Hall to Close on Fridays

Starting in March, City Hall will be closed on Fridays as employees begin a four-day, 40-hour workweek.
Mayor pro tem Robert W. Bruesch said the new 7 a.m.-to-6 p.m. hours will be more convenient for the community and developers.
Azusa, Baldwin Park, Duarte, El Monte and La Verne have changed similarly and are reporting as much as $25,000 to $50,000 annually in utility savings, he said.
Councilman Gary A. Taylor voted against the new hours. He said the additional 52 Fridays off, in addition to sick days, vacation time and holidays, is nothing more than a bonus package for employees and a disservice to the public.
“That’s 76 leisure days a year off,” Taylor said. “That’s almost three months of service days that we could be providing to residents. I can’t justify doing this.”
