Agoura’s Burns Wins Again in Tournament

Sean Burns of Agoura High improved to 26-0 by recording three pins and claimed the 171-pound championship Saturday in the Alemany Invitational wrestling tournament.

Phil Duffield of Canoga Park (189 pounds), Richard Preciado of Fillmore (140) and Chad Payne of Agoura (119) also recorded three pins in as many matches to place first.

Burns, who has 15 pins this season, and Preciado were selected most valuable wrestlers for the upper and lower weight divisions.

Burns recorded pins against Mike Kieffer of Littlerock (1 minute 55 seconds) Richard Teer of Chatsworth (0:40) and Robert Diermier of Fillmore (3:54).

Preciado pinned Mike Wilson of Palmdale (1:55), Blake Olson of Agoura (0:42) and Sonny Tuft of Littlerock (3:58).

Willie Arreola of Alemany (160) recorded two pins in four matches and plac ed first. Arreola defeated Peter Ishou of Canoga Park, 4-1, in the final. “That was my toughest match,” said Arreola (16-1).

Also winning a division title was Keith Jardine, the City Section defending heavyweight champion.

In team competition, Littlerock placed first with 192 points, followed by Canoga Park (165), Alemany (129 1/2), El Camino Real (115 1/2) and Agoura (105). Four of 16 scheduled teams failed to show.
