CLARENCE WILLIAMS

A former gang member, the 31-year-old Santa Ana resident now manages a record store in Tustin.

When I was in a gang, my particular forte was thievery. I’ve never owned or used a gun. And although some close friends were killed by guns, I feel that banning them would still violate our constitutional rights.

I think that instead of trying to ban these weapons, we should toughen up our prosecution laws. Tougher laws, not banned guns, will head off the violence in our streets. And even though I have never owned a gun, I still would like the right to own one. It’s my right as an American citizen.
