The Huntington Beach Small Business Assistance Center, which will offer small business owners and entrepreneurs free financial advice, is scheduled to open Feb. 2.
Activities at the center will be coordinated by the city and Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce. The center will offer expert counselors to confidentially review existing businesses or start-up business plans, a city spokesman said.
The counselors will answer marketing, finance, legal and insurance questions. Free one-hour counseling appointments will be available each Tuesday from 1 to 5 p.m.
The center, which has received a grant of $15,000 from GTE California, will also host free seminars on a number of business-related topics in February and March. There is a $10 fee for materials at each seminar.
“Seventy-five to 80% of all new businesses fail within the first two years,” according to Susan Fox, the center’s business management consultant. “The main reason these businesses fail is inadequate financing, lack of management skills and lack of business planning.”
The Small Business Assistance Center will be in the Chamber of Commerce office at 2100 Main St. For more information on seminars or to set up a counseling appointment, call (714) 536-8888.
