A man was shot by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies early Wednesday at his home near Compton after he pointed an assault weapon at them, a spokesman for the department said.

Amado Alonzo Escobedo, 40, died at 6:30 a.m. at his East Rancho Dominguez home in the 4200 block of Palmerstone Street in an unincorporated area of the county, said Deputy Gabe Ramirez.

The deputies were assisting the San Gabriel Police Department in delivering a narcotics search warrant to Escobedo when the shooting occurred, Ramirez said.
