State Sen. Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley) has been appointed to the senate’s Budget and Fiscal Review Committee, Senate leaders announced Thursday.

The 13-member committee reviews all bills that have a monetary impact on the state budget.

The former Simi Valley mayor and 12-year state assemblywoman has also been chosen to serve on the senate’s Judiciary, Education, Toxics, Public Safety Management and Health and Human Services committees, and will serve as vice chair of the Public Employment Retirement Committee.

The appointments were made by Senate Speaker Pro Tem David Roberti (D-Van Nuys) with the recommendation from the Senate Republican leader Ken Maddy (R-Fresno), said Wright spokesman John J. Theiss.

Theiss said Wright told Maddy that she wanted to be appointed to the toxics and budget committees, but the other appointments were “pleasant surprises.” Each of the committees meets two or three times a week, he said.

Wright’s Senate district includes the cities of Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Camarillo, Port Hueneme, Oxnard, Fillmore, Piru and portions of the San Fernando Valley.
