Roosevelt High held Garfield scoreless during a five-minute stretch in the second quarter en route to a 48-35 Southeastern Conference victory Friday at Garfield.

Garfield led, 11-10, but Denise Caudillo made a three-point basket to spark a 16-0 run that gave Roosevelt a 26-11 halftime lead.

Caudillo, who had 17 points in the Roughriders 64-34 victory over Bell Tuesday, had three steals and scored seven of her nine points during the stretch. “We were getting a little cocky,” the 5-foot-7 junior said. “We needed something to pick us up.”

Raquel Camerena and Sandy Hinojosa made two consecutive three-point baskets to cut the deficit to 32-25.

But Roosevelt (10-2) scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter and extended its lead to 17 points with two minutes to play.

South Gate 50, Jefferson 38--Ruby Maciel had six of her 10 points in the third quarter as the visiting Rams pulled away for a Southeastern Conference victory to extend their school-record 12-game winning streak.

Shonte Tippie had a game-high 22 points and 15 rebounds for Jefferson.

Crenshaw 78, Washington 55--Coming off a 28-point performance in a 60-48 victory over Carson Tuesday, Cathleen Grice responded with 26 for the Cougars in a Southern Pacific Conference game.

Bell Gardens 45, Keppel 44--Maria Bautista made a layup with 1:10 to play to lift the Lancers to an Almont League victory.

Dorsey 52, Banning 41--Donna Lincoln had 20 points and Tamu Agiza added 11 for the Dons in a Southern Pacific Conference win.

Wilson 46, Franklin 39--The Mules rallied from a five-point third-quarter deficit to improve to 5-1 in Northern Conference play. Donna Gordon scored 15 points for Wilson, which held on for a 55-51 victory over Eagle Rock Tuesday.

Hamilton 61, Los Angeles 26--LaToya Higgins had 13 points for host Los Angeles in a Coastal Conference game.

Belmont 59, Lincoln 50--Norma Hernandez had 17 points to help Belmont rebound for a Northern Conference victory.

WEDNESDAY’S GAMES

Fremont 75, Jordan 17--Sheila Paige had 27 points and Trayshon Perkins had 11 assists for the Pathfinders who raced to a 32-0 lead in a Southeastern Conference game.
