Brea Hospital Fire Prompts Evacuation

Share

Patients in a wing of a psychiatric hospital were evacuated Sunday morning after a small fire was apparently started in a room.

The fire at CPC Brea Canyon Hospital at 875 N. Brea Blvd., which began about 10 a.m., was extinguished mostly by the hospital’s sprinkler system, said Brea Fire Capt. Gary Jackson. No injuries were reported.

Jackson said that a patient may have caused the blaze, which was under investigation Sunday.

The fire was contained to one room but about half a dozen others were damaged by smoke and water, Jackson said. Because of the damage, an undisclosed number of patients were moved to another wing of the hospital, which has a total of about 200 rooms.
