WESTLAKE VILLAGE : Woman Dies in Freeway Crash
A 46-year-old Westlake Village woman was killed Monday when an 18-wheel tractor-trailer sideswiped her pickup truck on the Ventura Freeway in Calabasas, authorities said.
Lupe O’Mullan was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred at about 3:20 p.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Phil Jernigan said.
Passenger Victoria Ulloa, 71, of Westlake Village was taken to Westlake Medical Center in Westlake Village, Jernigan said. She was listed in fair condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
O’Mullan was driving in the slow lane of the eastbound freeway east of Liberty Canyon Road. A tractor-trailer apparently tried to move into the slow lane but the driver did not see the pickup truck and sideswiped it, Jernigan said.
The pickup overturned several times, trapping O’Mullan and Ulloa inside. The Los Angeles County Fire Department helped free the injured woman.
An investigation into the accident is continuing, Jernigan said.
