Lee Roy Jordan, former Dallas linebacker who played on three Cowboy Super Bowl teams, was asked to leave practice Friday along with some friends of owner Jerry Jones.

“Nothing against any of them, but this is for the Super Bowl,” Coach Jimmy Johnson said. “People want to be in the know and they might see a play, brag to someone and then that guy will tell someone else and before you know it, someone on the other team hears what we’re doing.”

Also at the practice was UCLA Coach Terry Donahue and his family. Donahue spent some time after practice with linebacker Ken Norton and quarterback Troy Aikman, two former Bruins.

The Cowboys worked for 85 minutes, their last serious workout before Sunday’s game.

“It was an excellent, excellent week,” Johnson said. “I think having nice facilities and nice weather allowed our guys to really focus in, and I think they really handled it as well as we could have ever hoped for.

“We had heard stories about the distractions and thought that might be an advantage for Buffalo, since they’ve experienced this the last two years. But because the way things were structured and the organization of the league, the distractions were not as big as anticipated.”

After practice, the Cowboys moved to a hotel closer to the Rose Bowl, where they will have a final, walk-through practice today.

“That’s just to familiarize ourselves with the stadium,” Johnson said.
