Former U.S. Rep. Mel Levine has become a partner in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, the state’s largest law firm.

Levine, who lost a bid for the Democratic nomination to the U.S. Senate to Barbara Boxer last year, said he talked with several firms before deciding to join Los Angeles-based Gibson, Dunn. He will work primarily out of the firm’s Century City offices.

Levine had represented California’s 27th District for 10 years; before that, he had served in the state Assembly from 1977-82 and had practiced law. He graduated from Harvard Law School.

Levine said he chose Gibson, Dunn because it is a solid, strong firm, and said the partnership will “uniquely give me an opportunity to work on a number of issues I was so involved with in Congress,” such as trade policy and high technology.
