Cal Lutheran Men (14-3) Reach 10th Place After NCAA Division III Basketball Poll
The Cal Lutheran men’s basketball team is ranked 10th in NCAA Division III in a poll by the National Assn. of Basketball Coaches.
It is the first time in two seasons in Division III that the Kingsmen (14-3) have cracked the Top 20.
Kyle Carden, a basketball and baseball standout at Crespi High, has been declared academically ineligible for the remainder of the basketball season.
Carden, a senior who would have been the No. 3 hitter and starting right fielder for the Celt baseball team, will miss the start of baseball season. The earliest Carden could regain his eligibility is March 26.
“I thought I was going to be close but I thought I was going to slide by,” Carden said. “But things didn’t work out the way I thought they would.”
Carden, a 6-foot-2 forward, averaged 11.2 points and 6.2 rebounds a game.
Volleyball fans are urged to buy their tickets early for the Cal State Northridge-UCLA match on Feb. 10 at Matador Gymnasium. Because of a bleacher malfunction that is too expensive to repair, the stands on the upper level of Matador Gymnasium will not open. As a result, seating capacity is limited to 2,000.
