COUNTYWIDE : Police Seek Gunman Who Shot Driver

Share

Oxnard police were searching Saturday for a gunman who fired several shots into a passing car, seriously wounding a longtime Oxnard businessman.

Morris Funk, 62, was in serious condition Saturday after undergoing surgery to remove a bullet lodged in his jaw, a hospital spokeswoman said. Funk, the owner of an Oxnard Boulevard pawn shop, was shot shortly before 7 p.m. Friday as he was driving in the 700 block of East 5th Street.

“So far we have no motive,” said Sgt. Charles Hookstra.

“Somebody had to see what happened and we need someone to step forward to give us something. That was a terrible thing.”

Funk and a passenger were eastbound on 5th Street, near Richmond Avenue, in a white 1985 Cadillac when a car pulled alongside and a gunman opened fire, Hookstra said.

Although he was shot in the face, Funk drove himself to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. Funk’s passenger was not injured, but was unable to provide a complete description of the assailant.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Oxnard Police Department.
