CAMARILLO : Bids to Be Sought for City Hall Expansion

Share

Despite concerns about possible state funding cuts, Camarillo city officials will spend about $280,000 this year to expand City Hall.

The City Council voted Monday to seek bids on the construction project, an addition to the side of the building facing Carmen Drive.

City officials first approved the expansion in 1990, but postponed it last year because of concerns about state funding cuts, Assistant City Manager Larry Davis said.

Council members said they decided to go ahead with construction this year because they have already set aside the money and because city employees are crowded in the existing space.

The project will add floor area for the city’s planning and engineering departments, which have added 10 staff members since City Hall opened in 1977.

“The people are crammed into those departments,” Mayor Charlotte Craven said. “The money’s budgeted.”
