GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Woodbridge, Newport Harbor Win, Share Title

Angela Burgess had 15 points and Lisa Ripley added 13 as Woodbridge beat Santa Margarita, 70-44, Thursday at Woodbridge to win a share of the Sea View League girls’ basketball title.

Woodbridge (20-5, 13-1), shared the league title with Newport Harbor. The teams split two meetings this season. It was the 11th consecutive 20-victory season for Woodbridge.

In other Sea View League games:

Newport Harbor 84, Irvine 41--Newport Harbor (18-6, 13-1), which won its first league title, was led by guard Genevieve Evarts, who had 24 points.

Corona del Mar 57, University 38--Mollie Flint scored 39 points for Corona del Mar (14-9, 7-7). Nicole Gallardo led University (12-11, 8-6) with 12 points.

Tustin 64, Saddleback 46--Katie Scheurman and Sarah Davis scored 20 and 17 points, respectively, to lead host Tustin (11-13, 7-7).

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 66, Loara 33--Angie Conley scored 14 points for El Dorado (21-2, 8-2), which shared the league title with Katella.

Katella 54, Los Alamitos 36--Chris Carrillo had 27 points and 11 rebounds for Katella (19-4, 8-2). Kelsi Armbruster also contributed with 11 points for the Knights.

Cypress 54, Esperanza 38--Jessica Eggleston scored 33 and Julie Adams scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for third-place Cypress (16-8, 7-3).

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 48, Sunny Hills 41--Nadia Hoerner and Anji Wallace each scored nine points for Fullerton (10-12, 6-4). Randi Kameoka had 12 for Sunny Hills (8-14, 4-6).

La Habra 50, Troy 45--Led by forward Aimee Weathers’s 16 points, La Habra (8-2) upset host Troy in the league final’s game. Weathers was particularly effective in the fourth quarter, when she hit two key field goals and went four for five at the free-throw line.

Dina Shah scored 20 points for Troy (20-4, 9-1), which won the league title despite having its 15-game winning streak ended.

Sonora 43, Buena Park 30--Chris Nonis scored 15 points, including three three-pointers, and Jodie Fister had eight points and eight rebounds for Sonora (9-13, 3-7).

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 72, Magnolia 18--Nicole Erickson had 21 points for host Brea-Olinda (24-2, 10-0), the top-ranked team in Orange County. Brea has won 61 consecutive Orange League games and 107 of the last 108.

Western 71, Anaheim 38--Forward Jennifer Christianson and center Kawanza Gibson both scored 20 points each for visiting Western (13-11, 6-4).

Savanna 59, Valencia 51--Sara Works had 19 points and 17 rebounds for second-place Savanna (13-11, 7-3) and Nikki Kubota had 32 for host Valencia (6-13, 4-6).

In the Olympic League:

Capistrano Valley Christian 40, Ontario Christian 38--The Eagles (16-6, 9-3) rallied from a seven-point deficit after three quarters and clinched second place in league.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 75, Trabuco 30--Oliva DiCamilli scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Costa Mesa (22-4, 10-0). Sara Montanez had 13 points for Trabuco Hills (10-14, 4-6).

Century 33, Laguna Hills 32 (OT)--Heather Farris scored a basket with a minute left in overtime as Century outscored Laguna Hills, 2-1, in the extra session.

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 61, Dana Hills 54--Angie White scored 30 points for Capistrano Valley (21-3, 10-0), which is ranked second in the county. Adara Newidouski led Dana Hills (13-8, 3-7) with 25 points.

Mater Dei 60, San Clemente 54--Leticia Oseguera scored 23 points and Andrienne Botana had 15 for Mater Dei (16-6, 6-4). Shawna Waldner had 17 for San Clemente (14-10, 6-4).
