In Division III at Calvary Chapel High School:
Calvary Chapel advances--Calvary Chapel had little trouble reaching the finals of the CIF Southern Section Division III wrestling championships as the Eagles ripped through three opponents by a combined score of 147-58.
Calvary Chapel will play host to Irvine for the Division III championship Feb. 25.
The Eagles (16-1), the top-ranked team in Orange County, beat fourth-seeded Paso Robles, 45-27, in the semifinal meet, but it wasn’t that close. Paso Robles (25-3), got 12 of its points on an injury default and a technical default.
Calvary got pins from Xavier Wilder, Shane Valdez, Dane Valdez, Greg Smith, Joey Coughran and Mauricio Mora in the first six matches to open up a 36-0 lead in the semis. After Calvary’s Josh Holiday was disqualified for slamming Jose Cervantes to the mat, Eddie Mosley clinched the meet for the Eagles when he earned a 16-0 technical fall over Steve Cassara.
