Bowling Alley Appeals Shut Down

Share

The owner of the Verdugo Hills Bowling Alley has filed a last-minute appeal of an order that would have shut down his bar and video games over city code violations.

Bert DeMascio filed the motion Feb. 3, the deadline for appealing a revocation of the conditional-use permit issued in 1984 that allows him to maintain the video machines and to sell alcoholic beverages.

On Jan. 19, acting Zoning Administrator Byron Foote issued the revocation order, which accused the bowling alley of several violations, including failing to maintain a parking lot guard after 5:30 p.m. and not obtaining a permit for a rooftop satellite dish.

DeMascio has been in a dispute with local homeowners who complain that the bowling alley, on Foothill Boulevard near Pennsylvania Avenue, attracts rowdy teen-agers who make noise, draw graffiti and urinate on the property.
