Sam Perkins, the newest member of the Seattle SuperSonics, is surprised how good his new team is.

“I knew this team was a good team when I was in Los Angeles. It’s a very good team,” Perkins said after a 109-92 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night at Seattle.

It was the seventh victory in a row for the SuperSonics (37-17), who have the third-best record in the NBA behind Phoenix and Chicago.

Ricky Pierce sparked a big third-quarter run when he scored 13 of his 19 points on six-for-eight shooting.

Trailing, 53-47, the SuperSonics outscored the Warriors, 28-8, for a 75-61 lead after three quarters.

Perkins scored only six points in 18 minutes, but Seattle didn’t need much help against the outmanned Warriors, who dressed only eight players.

Golden State Coach Don Nelson said the acquisition of Perkins makes the SuperSonics a championship contender.

“With what the Sonics have now, I feel this team could take it all the way to the NBA finals,” Nelson said.

Tim Hardaway led the Warriors with 29 points.

Milwaukee 95, Detroit 93--Blue Edwards’ jump shot with 23 seconds to play gave the Bucks a victory over the Pistons at Auburn Hills, Mich.

Mark Aguirre’s three-pointer with 36 seconds left gave the Pistons a 93-92 lead before Edwards made his seventh consecutive shot to end the Bucks’ five-game losing streak.

Joe Dumars missed a potential game-winning jumper with five seconds to play. Milwaukee’s Danny Schayes then made one free throw and intentionally missed the second to run out the clock.

Brad Lohaus led the Bucks with 27 points and nine rebounds.

Dumars led the Pistons with 22 points and Aguirre scored 21.

Alvin Robertson, traded by the Bucks to the Pistons on Thursday, was impressive in his debut against his former team. With Isiah Thomas in foul trouble, Robertson played 26 minutes, scored nine points and had five steals.

Houston 107, Denver 102--Hakeem Olajuwon scored 10 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter as the Rockets won their sixth consecutive game with a victory at Houston.

Reggie Williams scored 24 points and Chris Jackson 21 for Denver. Olajuwon and Otis Thorpe both had 13 rebounds for the Rockets.

Chicago 112, Atlanta 92--Michael Jordan scored 34 points and Trent Tucker made all nine field-goal attempts to finish with a season-high 24 points, as the Bulls won at Chicago.

Tucker made six of Chicago’s nine three-point baskets as the Bulls, who have won five in a row, played without All-Star forward Scottie Pippen, who was serving a one-game suspension for fighting.

Atlanta’s Dominique Wilkins had a game-high 38 points.

Sacramento 121, Utah 117--Walt Williams scored 37 points, including six in the final 1:59, as the Kings ended a seven-game losing streak with a victory at Salt Lake City.

Karl Malone and Jeff Malone each scored 24 points and Larry Krystkowiak 21 for Utah, which lost its fourth in a row. Wayman Tisdale added 25 points and Lionel Simmons 21 for the Kings.
