Officer Shot, Is Saved by Bulletproof Vest
An Inglewood police officer was shot point-blank in the chest as he sat in a police car in a city-owned service yard, but was not hurt because he wore a bulletproof vest, police said Sunday.
A man with a handgun walked up to Sgt. Don Fry early Sunday morning as he sat parked inside the Inglewood city services yard, where city vehicles have their gas tanks filled, according to Officer Michael Han.
The man shot Fry once in the left side of the chest. Fry shot back as the man ran off, dropping his weapon as he fled. Fry was treated and released at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital.
Police searched for two hours but could not find the gunman.
