Gilded Time Won’t Run in Triple Crown
Gilded Time, the 2-year-old champion and winter book favorite to win the Kentucky Derby, won’t compete in the Triple Crown races because of a hoof injury.
Owner David Milch said Monday that his undefeated colt has experienced hoof problems all along and will be X-rayed today. “We’re taking this occasion to rectify a bunch of things.”
Gilded Time, who won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last October, worked three furlongs in 38 seconds Saturday at Santa Anita.
“That was perfectly fine,” Milch said, “but he did not react well afterward. . . . We want to give him time to heal.”
Trained by Darrell Vienna, Gilded Time won all four of his starts last year and earned $855,980.
