Appealing to Oscar: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is reviewing director Adolfo Aristarain’s request to have the disqualification for his “A Place in the World” in the foreign-language film category overturned. But academy spokesman John Pavlik said the academy has no real appeals process and the decision will stand. Aristarain met with academy president Robert Rehme and executive director Bruce Davis on Tuesday, but Pavlik said they “didn’t give him any hope that there will be any change.” The academy rescinded the film’s nomination last week because it was submitted by Uruguay, but is regarded as a product of Argentina.
