Four starters return from a team that tied for sixth place in league. Dillon and Martell, the Lobos’ top two pitchers and hitters, are the most notable players coming back. Dillon, the staff’s ace, also plays first base. Martell, who was the Division IV water polo co-player of the year and an all-league basketball selection, will catch and be the No. 2 pitcher. Pruter, in his fifth season at Los Amigos, will also try and get some innings out of Carrillo and Smith, who may have the best arm on the team. With Carrillo at second, Kuzmic at short and Smith in center, Los Amigos should be strong up the middle. Jeff Stafford rounds out what should be an above-average defensive infield. Hoover will catch when Martell pitches. “With a strong infield and solid pitching, I’m confident that we will make it to .500 and make the playoffs,” Los Amigos assistant coach Steve Foreman said. If so, the Lobos will need plenty of young, unproven players to provide solid defense and help Dillon and Martell generate some offense.
