A citizens advisory group for Van Nuys Airport voted unanimously to support a policy that would require airport tenants to install gates and fences around their businesses to beef up security at the airport.
The Van Nuys Airport Citizens Advisory Council voted Tuesday to back the new security policy proposed by airport Manager Ron Kochevar, who said there has long been a problem with people entering the airport without authorization.
Before the policy can be imposed, it must be approved by the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners, which is expected to consider the item in the next month or so.
Kochevar said the cost of installing such gates and fences ranges from $600 to $6,000, depending on the type of gate and security system the tenant decides to install.
