San Clemente’s Beschen Advances to 2nd Round

San Clemente’s Gavin Beschen was among the 16 surfers to advance to the second round Thursday at the Body Glove surfing contest at Seaside Reef in Cardiff.

Beschen, the younger brother of defending U.S. champion Shane Beschen, advanced by winning his first-round heat.

The surfers competing today include Newport Beach’s Richie Collins and Carlsbad’s Taylor Knox, who has won the first two events on the U.S. Bud Pro tour.
