HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER PLAYOFFS : Santa Paula Gets Past Calabasas
In the Division I final, Santa Paula defeated Calabasas, 2-1. The Cardinals overcame a one-goal deficit on goals by Joseph Jauregui and Albert Perez to defeat a Calabasas squad that had beaten them twice during Frontier League play.
Shayne Ferber scored at 29:25 for Calabasas (16-5-2) after taking a pass from Bhrett Haessig. Haessig broke free along the left wing after taking a give and go pass from Steve Thomas and then directed the ball to Ferber.
But Santa Paula tied it a minute later as a corner kick by Jauregui curved into the net. The Cardinals (17-8-3) score the game-winning goal at 47:53 when Albert Perez won a scramble in front of the net and pushed the ball through traffic.
Santa Paula goalie Guillermo Alvarado made several key saves for Santa Paula. Alvarado was playing his first game in goal, as a replacement for Robert Rodriguez, who broke his jaw in the semifinals.
Redlands 1, Fontana 0--Andy Peterson scored at 78:26 to lift Redlands (21-4-4) to the Division I title over Fontana (16-4-4).
