PREP BASKETBALL TITLE GAMES : Muir Rallies Past Artesia in Division II-A

Jacque Vaughn had a game-high 23 points and added 15 assists and seven steals to lead Pasadena Muir to a 70-63 victory Friday over Artesia in the Southern Section Division II-A boys’ basketball championship at UC Irvine.

Muir (27-5) had a 37-34 halftime lead and outscored Artesia, 11-2, to start the second half and gain a 48-37 advantage with 4:18 to play in the third quarter.

In the Southern Section Division II-AA boys’ championship game:

Riverside J.W. North 75, Compton Dominguez 72--Deon Williams’ three-point attempt for Dominguez with seven seconds to play rolled off the rim, allowing North to extend its perfect record to 30-0, at UC Irvine.

In the Southern Section Division III-AA boys’ championship game:

Inglewood Morningside 65, South Torrance 62--Stais Boseman had 19 points and 11 rebounds to help Morningside (26-5) successfully defend its championship, but only after South Torrance’s Jimmy Williamson missed a three-pointer at the buzzer at Cal Poly Pomona.

In the Southern Section Division III-A boys’ championship game:

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 61, San Dimas 54--Glen Carson scored 19 points to lead Notre Dame at Cal Poly Pomona.

In the Southern Section Division IV-A boys’ championship game:

Gardena Serra 69, Los Angeles Verdum Dei 53--The Cavaliers (20-6) pulled away early and were never challenged at El Camino College.

In the Southern Section Division V-A boys’ championship game:

Bel-Air Prep 52, Fontana Ambassador Christian 48--Westley Allen scored 16 points to lead the Bruins (21-7) at La Verne Lutheran High.

In the Southern Section Division IV-A girls’ championship game:

Cerritos Valley Christian 66, Burbank Bell-Jeff 52--The Crusaders scored 31 fourth-quarter points at Biola College to end Bell-Jeff’s 23-game winning streak.

In the Southern Section Division V-A girls’ championship game:

Lancaster Bethel Christian 40, Lone Pine 36--Keri Burns had 17 points and nine rebounds to lead Bethel Christian (21-5) at Antelope Valley College.

In the City Section 4-A boys’ championship game:

Crenshaw 92, Dorsey 71--Kristaan Johnson’s 24 points sparked Crenshaw (24-2) to its 12th City title, at the Sports Arena.

In the City Section 3-A boys’ championship game:

Wilmington Banning 59, Sepulveda Monroe 58--Banning (17-12) jumped out to a 14-0 lead, then had to hold on until Monroe’s Kenyatta Niles missed a three-point attempt with 14 seconds to play at the Sports Arena.

In the City Section 4-A girls’ championship game:

Crenshaw 72, North Hollywood 50--Playing in its fourth title game since 1987, Crenshaw (24-2) won its first title in that period, behind Cathleen Grice’s 26 points at the Sports Arena.

In the City Section 3-A girls’ championship game:

Los Angeles Jefferson 60, Harbor City Narbonne 53--Junior center Shonte Tippie scored 20 points to lead Jefferson at the Sports Arena.
