Jan Mattern and Connie Hansen set course records Sunday in the Los Angeles Marathon wheelchair division.

Hansen, of Copenhagen, finished in 1 hour 51 minutes 26 seconds. She held the former course record of 1:56:17.

It was Hansen’s third consecutive victory in the L.A. Marathon.

Mattern finished in 1:32:15. He broke the old record of 1:33:57 set by Jim Knaub last year.

Mattern, from Arlington, Tex., said he had an advantage because he is accustomed to racing in warm weather. He broke away at Mile 14.

“I wasn’t even trying to break away,” Mattern said. “Then, I looked back and I had 100 meters on them, and I decided to go ahead and go for it.”

Knaub, the winner in the men’s division in 1992, got a flat tire and did not finish.
