ROUNDUP : Hart Errors Pave Way for Royal, 13-3

Tricia Polhert went two for five with five runs batted in to lead Royal High to a 13-3 victory over Hart on Wednesday in a nonleague softball game at Hart.

Hart (2-1), a Southern Section 4-A Division finalist last season, committed five errors. All 13 Royal runs were unearned.

Polhert’s two-run double sparked a six-run fifth inning that gave Royal (3-1-1) a 7-2 lead.

Saugus 10, Diamond Bar 0--Senior Jamie Gillies (1-0) pitched a one-hitter with one strikeout and one walk to lead Saugus in a Chino tournament game at Saugus.

Canyon 5, Palmdale 0--Senior Marianne Winchester struck out the first 14 batters (18 total) in leading the Cowboys to a first-round win over the host Falcons in the Palmdale tournament.

Quartz Hill 10, Highland 1--Amanda Richards was four for four with a double and a triple and the Rebels (1-1) hit three home runs in the opening round of the Palmdale tournament. Cindy Sims, who was two for five, Mary Flores and Danielle Young each hit their first home runs for Quartz Hill.

Buena 10-7, Agoura 2-3--Jenifer Malson and Karsti Greysen pitched complete games and the host Bulldogs (4-0) had 21 hits in a nonleague doubleheader.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Antelope Valley 11, Citrus 0 (5 innings)--Sophomore right-hander Angie LePage pitched a no-hitter in a Foothill Conference game shortened by the 10-run rule.

Christine Smith, who had a three-run double, and Cheree Rogers, who was two for two with three runs scored, led the attack for Antelope Valley (8-3, 1-0).

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

Hesperia 9, Antelope Valley 4--The Antelopes (0-3) walked 11 batters and five of them scored in a nonleague game. Sam Campos went the distance for Hesperia, striking out 12.

Chris Tapia was two for three for Antelope Valley.

Antelope Valley Christian 14, Ribet Academy 2--Kris Kershaw struck out 14 batters, walked three and allowed four hits, leading the Eagles (1-0) to an easy nonleague victory over host Ribet.

L.A. Lutheran 9, Campbell Hall 5--The Vikings committed a season-high eight errors, helping L.A. Lutheran to a six-inning nonleague victory at Campbell Hall.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Cal Lutheran 3, UC San Diego 0--Jeff Berman threw a three-hit shutout while striking out eight and Eric Johnson hit a three-run home run after two Triton errors in the fourth inning for the Kingsmen (12-3) in a nonconference game. The victory was Cal Lutheran’s fourth in a row.
