Pop Album Chart : Three Singles Propel ‘Bodyguard’

Share

The most notable chart achievement this week is on the pop singles list where Whitney Houston just missed becoming the first artist since the Bee Gees back in the disco era to have three singles in the Top 10. But three in the Top 11 isn’t bad. The trio is from her “Bodyguard” soundtrack--”I’m Every Woman” (No. 5), “I Have Nothing” (No. 9) and “I Will Always Love You” (No. 11). These singles are keeping the soundtrack album near the top of the chart--No. 2. Don’t be surprised if “Bodyguard” bounces Clapton’s “Unplugged” out of the top spot next week. Many critics don’t like the country duo Brooks and Dunn, but they’re certainly fan favorites. Their new album, “Hard Workin’ Man,” jumped from No. 19 to No. 9. Van Halen’s collection of live tracks, “Live: Right Here, Right Now,” slipped from No. 5 to No. 18, but that’s still a strong first two weeks considering its retail price--$28. Snow’s “Informer” is still the top pop single.

* Dolly Parton’s new album leaped from No. 54 to No. 19 and is shaping up as one of her biggest albums ever.
