And Don’t Think Loyola Fans Will Go Quietly

Share

It is a sad state of affairs when a basketball program’s promise is snuffed out rather than allowed to develop and grow. This year’s Loyola Marymount team went 7-20, including a dismal defeat to Pepperdine in the first round of the WCC tournament. This after two winning seasons under the tutelage of former LMU coach Jay Hillock.

Hillock was bushwhacked by unhappy fans and alumni. However, the real nemesis in this tragedy is Athletic Director Brian Quinn, who demonstrates a lack of experience and foresight in overseeing LMU’s athletic programs. It was Quinn who sided with last year’s fans and their bush league mentalities by releasing Hillock. The cost was a lousy ‘92-93 season and the inexperience of current Coach John Olive.
