SIMI VALLEY : Student Poster Contest Announced

Share

Fair housing for all is the theme of a student poster contest being organized by the city of Simi Valley and the Simi Valley/Moorpark Board of Realtors.

This is the fifth year that the contest has been held, said James Purtee, an associate planner for the city. This year’s theme is “Fair Housing: Share the Dream.”

Students from the fourth through 12th grades are being asked to put their designs on 22-by-28-inch poster board that exemplify the city’s commitment to preserving equal housing opportunities.

“Under the federal Community Block Grant program, it is a requirement that we promote education and outreach efforts in regard to fair housing,” Purtee said.

“So we have workshops and seminars and so on. One of the best ways to reach the kids is through the poster contest. That way, we can get the information out to all the schools and get the kids involved and thinking about the whole issue.”

Posters will be accepted throughout April and awards will be presented at the Simi Valley/Moorpark Board of Realtors office May 14. Cash prizes range from $200 to $50, and area merchants have donated other prizes that will be awarded to all participants.
