Compton : City Park to Be Renamed for 2 Slain Police Officers
The Compton City Council unanimously agreed this week to rename a city park in honor of two police officers who were killed during a routine traffic stop last month.
West Park will now be known as Burrell-MacDonald Park, in memory of Officer Kevin Michael Burrell, 29, and reserve Officer James Wayne MacDonald, 23. The park is at Alondra Boulevard and Wadsworth Avenue.
Police are still investigating the killings, which touched off a massive manhunt. One man was arrested, but he was charged with an unrelated homicide and police no longer consider him a primary suspect in the slaying of the officers, investigators said.
A $35,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the two men who gunned down the officers Feb. 22.
