Loyola Plays Pepperdine in Three-Game Series

The Loyola Marymount baseball team will play a three-game West Coast Conference series against rival Pepperdine beginning today at Malibu.

The teams will play a single game at 2:30 p.m today and a doubleheader at noon Saturday. San Diego is 7-2 in conference play and Loyola and Pepperdine are 5-1.

Loyola (11-13) lost to USC, 8-5, on Tuesday. The Lions have won five conference games in a row, including a three-game sweep of St. Mary’s last week.

Pepperdine, the defending NCAA champion, is 14-7 and ranked 14th by Collegiate Baseball and 18th by Baseball America. The Waves were 6-0 against Loyola in 1992.

“Loyola Marymount got off to a slow start, but they have been playing much better the past three weeks,” Pepperdine Coach Andy Lopez said.

Loyola catcher Andy Biaggi ranks among conference leaders in batting with a .342 average.

Pepperdine, which has won seven of its last eight games, is led by third baseman Mark Wasikowski. He is batting .412.
