COLLEGE BASKETBALL WOMEN’S TOURNAMENT : Stanford Rolls Past Georgia

Molly Goodenbour scored 29 points, making five three-pointers, to lead defending NCAA champion Stanford to a 93-60 second-round West Regional victory over Georgia on Saturday night at Palo Alto.

The top-seeded Cardinal (26-5) knocked Georgia (21-13) out of the tournament for the second time in three years.

Val Whiting added 20 points for Stanford and became the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,056 points.

Shelly Sheetz scored six points to lead a 22-6 Colorado run in the final nine minutes and the Buffaloes (26-3) posted an 81-54 victory over UC Santa Barbara (19-12) at at Boulder, Colo. . . . Sheryl Swoopes scored 30 points, 22 in the second half, as No. 5-ranked Texas Tech (27-3) rallied for a 70-64 victory over Washington (17-12) at Lubbock, Tex.

EAST REGIONAL

Leni Wilson made two free throws with six seconds to play to lift Georgetown (23-6) to a 68-67 victory over Penn State (22-6) at State College, Pa. . . .Paulette Monroe scored 18 points to lead Western Kentucky (24-6) to a 78-63 victory over Miami (24-7) at Bowling Green, Ky.

MIDEAST REGIONAL

Lisa Harrison and Dana Johnson scored 18 points apiece to lead top-seeded Tennessee (28-2) to an 89-66 rout of Northwestern (20-9) at Knoxville, Tenn. . . .Laurie Aaron scored 22 points and Tia Jackson 17 as Iowa (25-3) posted an 82-56 victory over Old Dominion (22-8) at Norfolk, Va.

MIDWEST REGIONAL

Heidi Gillingham scored 23 points and Julie Powell 18 to lead top-seeded Vanderbilt (28-2) to an 82-63 victory over California (19-10) at Nashville, Tenn. . . .Pam Thomas scored nine of her team-high 17 points during the final four minutes as No. 14-ranked Louisiana Tech (25-5) posted an 82-78 victory over No. 16 Texas (22-8) at Austin, Tex. . . .Tonya Baucom made a follow shot with 31 seconds to play to break a tie and lift Southwest Missouri State (23-8) to an 86-82 victory over Maryland (22-8) at College Park, Md. Tina Robbins led the Bears with 26 points, 17 in the second half.
